Center for Language Education Faculty Positions – English Language

The SUSTech Center for Language Education invites applications for instructors to facilitate language training for a diverse range of SUSTech students (undergraduate and postgraduate), in addition to training for faculty members and staff. The primary language of instruction at the university is English. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is a young public university located in Shenzhen, China, near Hong Kong.

 

Currently, the Center for Language Education (CLE) offers courses in English and Mandarin as a Foreign Language, as well a range of elective courses. The Center is rapidly expanding and will soon offer courses in French, Spanish, German and Cantonese as a Foreign Language.

Responsibilities:

l   Teaching academic listening, speaking, reading, and writing at various levels;

l   Developing/participating in placement and exit testing;

l   Providing training for graduate students and faculty members in using English as an instructional language;

l   Providing training for the administrative staff to develop English competency;

l   Curriculum, assessment and materials development;

l   Participating in department meetings or program support activities as needed.

Qualifications:

l   Candidates must have an earned masters or doctorate degree in TESOL, TEFL, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or related field. A doctorate degree is essential for those who wish to be considered for teaching on the postgraduate program;

l   Minimum 3 years’ experience teaching English at the college/university level;

l   Experience in one or more of the following areas: EAP, curriculum development, ESP for STEM, assessment, teacher training, academic writing, educational technology;

l   Experience living/teaching abroad highly desirable;

l   For applicants with a doctorate degree, evidence of research publication in the field of English language education.

Director of Center for Language Education, SUSTech

SUSTech Center for Language Education (CLE) is responsible to provide English language education to SUSTech students and promote internationalization of the university. 

 

SUSTech invites applications for CLE director who has the vision and strategy to develop the language center into a world-class one.

 

Responsibilities:

?        Provide both administrative and academic leadership for the center;

?        Develop and implement strategic plans;

?        Recruit, mentor, and evaluate teaching faculty and staff;

?        Administer the CLE budget and supervise staff;

?        Develop, maintain, and review curriculum and supervise CLE programs;

?        Teach appropriate classes;

?        Supervise proficiency testing, student evaluation, and placement;

?        Engage in professional development;

?        Assist the teaching units with pertinent university activities.

 

Qualifications:

?        Doctoral degree;

?        Have a high level of English proficiency;

?        Education or working experience in Europe or North America;

?        At least five years of experience in intensive English Language program and university program administration;

?        Experience with faculty development and students training;

?        Experience in innovative program development and assessment;

?        Proficiency in one or more languages other than English preferred;

?        Familiar with theories and practice of language teaching, knowledgeable of cultures and histories of Europe and North America;

?        Record of effective collaboration with colleagues and diverse constituencies both domestically and globally;

?        Outstanding professional, cross-cultural communication skills.
