The University


Established in 2012, the South University of Science and Technology (SUSTC) is a public institution funded by the municipal of Shenzhen, a special economic zone city in southern China. Shenzhen  is a major city located in Southern China, situated immediately north of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. As one of China's major gateways to the world, Shenzhen is the country's fast-growing city in the past two decades. The city is the high-tech and manufacturing hub of southern China, home to the world's third-busiest container port, and the fourth-busiest airport on the Chinese mainland.  As a State-level innovative city, Shenzhen has chosen independent innovation as the dominant strategy for its development. A picturesque coastal city, Shenzhen is a popular tourist destination and was named one of the world's 31 must-see tourist destinations in 2010 by The New York Times. By the end of 2013, there were 10.63 million permanent residents in the city.


The South University of Science and Technology is a pioneer in higher education reform in China.  The mission of the University is to become a globally recognized institution which emphasizes academic excellence and promotes  innovation,  creativity and entrepreneurship .


Set on five hundred acres of wooded landscape in the picturesque Nanshan (South Mountain) area, the new campus offers an ideal environment suitable for learning and research. The new campus   occupies more than 1,940,000 square meters, and the total construction area will be approximately 630,000 square meters.


The University currently has 210 faculty members, including over 50 “Thousand Talent” junior and senior professors. The University is now planning five faculties: Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Life and Health Science, Faculty of Business and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The target faculty number will be 200 for Science, 300 for Engineering, 150 for Life and Health Science Faculty, 50 for Business, and 50 for Humanities and Social Sciences.


Call for Application


The South University of Science and Technology now invites applications for the position of Dean of Science, Dean of Engineering, Dean of Life and Health Science, Dean of Business, and Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences.


Candidates should be distinguished scholars with international recognition. The appointee should have the vision and capability to build on and expand the Faculty's strengths; outstanding management effectiveness; commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.


It is expected that the appointee will provide visionary, strategic leadership for the Faculty, in alignment with the vision, mission and Strategic Plan of the University.  In collaboration with the Faculty members and other academic units, the Dean will advance the Faculty's academic excellence in research and professional education, and further its international standing.


Terms & Applications


The appointee will be offered appointment to an academic rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The deanship appointment will be on a concurrent basis, who will be also affiliated with a relevant department. The retirement age of the appointee will be negotiated by the President.
